The Sarcastic Voice was initially developed sometime in fifth or sixth grade before we were capable of making any actual sarcastic jokes. You may recognize this voice in such acts as "Irish Jig" or anytime we make a totally out-there comment. So anyways, this voice has been in use ever since then, although in the past few years it's taken on a few variations.
This new voice, the That's Funny Cause You're Going to Die tonight voice is the second of the new phase of voices. At least the second to be recognized as new and named. The other voice is one that doesn't really have a name, but I suppose it could be referred to as "The Voice That Kate Hates." Although that voice may be put into retirement due to reasons that are made clear in the title.
So all these voices have their own weird little accents that while subtle, are noticable when put into normal speech. And this is really starting to take a toll on the way I talk. The combination of speaking in these voices way too often, slurring my words when I get excited (which I often am), and my slight Vermont accent (causing me to drop letters - most commonly t's, but also others) has started to make me talk kind of funny. It doesn't sound funny to my friends really, but people who are actually trying to understand what I'm saying sometimes have a hard time. Now, I'm not saying I'm totally impossible to understand, because that woudl be a huge overstatement (then again, Dad may disagree, he often complains that I'm very difficult to understand). It's just when I'm telling some really long story and laughing. But at least trying to figure out what I'm saying gives people something else to do than listen to my stories - which I happen to love, but I can see why they may be uninteresting to other people.
That's one of the only downsides to this being a webpage. It's better if I actually have something to say. Because as fun as it may be for me to sit down and write this, it's a whole other story when you try to sit down and read it.
Oh and just some updates: I realize that I have been saying for a while that I'm putting pictures on here soon and I have not yet done so. Although, I plan to do so very soon. So don't give up faith completely, there will at some point be pictures. Also, since Josh will be up this weekend he may be able to help me fool around with the format of this page which could be interesting. I hope you enjoyed this entry that was about a million paragraphs longer than it needed to be!
"hey martha. omg, so big news. i'm going out with this kid, his name is ralph huntington III, he's so dreamy! it was love at first sight! we were both walking into the irish chess club to sign up for the tournament that's coming up. and the moment i saw those bright, tapered red sweatpants, i knew. i mean, i just thought "he is the one!" so anyways, i was about to say hi, but he tripped over his own shoes (he's a size 42, oh and he's 5'1" by the way, i know, perfect!). so i helped him up, but unfortunately he had broken his glasses! i know, what a tragedy. but luckily i was carying my tape with me, so we just taped them back together at the nosepeice. anyways, so we're going out this friday. i'm so nervous! do you think we'll hold hands? i don't know if i'm ready! but one thing i do know.... he is the one for me! i mean, the cowlick kind of seals the deal, don't you think? i was considering wearing my frosted pink lipstick, shimmery blue eyeshadow and denim cap to see him! and maybe my high heeled high tops? oh, and i bought new tapered, acid wash jeans specially for the occasion! and of course i will wear my irish pendant necklace! but there was never any doubt about that. so anyways, we're going to see a movie, it's called "hall of doom," have you heard of it? and then we may go out and ride a bicycle. well wish me luck! ok, and if you want to email ralphy-poo, his address is "ralphzie884@irishbicycle.com" ok, bye!
lib
ps- he kind of looks like john ritter! i know!!!"
So that was my email. And no one's allowed to get offended if you're Irish, or your name is Ralph, etc. Because it was just a joke (except then again, true love is never really a joke.)
Next, I hear some scratching and she trots out from the kitchen (having knocked over the gate) and proceeds to leave her bloody little paw print all over the place. So, I lured her back into the kitchen with a grape and immediatly notice that she decided to pee on the kitchen floor too. (As amusing as the story may seem now, I was not at all amused at the time).
So, eventually Mom comes home. She called the vet (yes I realize I'm switching between past and present tense, I'll try to pick one). Mom suspected that Micque had lost one of her toe nails and the vet suggested she should wrap up Micque's foot with a bandage and baking powder. I don't know how baking powder helps to stop bleeding, but I'll ask Dad when he gets home, or if any of you know, feel free to leave a comment.
So, Mom and I mopped up the floor (which was entirely covered with blood paw prints) and thought the situation to be under control. So I went off to tap class, and Mom went off to the pool. Then, we arrived home to find that Micque had let herself out of the mudroom (where she had been gated in) and decided to wander all over the place, once again leaving her bloody trail. So I again mopped for about fifty years (okay, fifteen minutes, but it seemed like forever) and Mom struggeled to get the blood out of the very light colored carpets (we ran out of carpet cleaner the first time).
So, thus concludes yet another fantastic tale of one of Micque's many troubles. This about confirms my decision to never own a pet when I grow up. Actually, I'll own a fish, I could deal with a fish. Update: Mom just called from the vets and it's the pad on Micque's foot that's cut, althought I do not know the cause of this cut. Update Again: Mom was right, Micque tore her toenail. She now has a little cast. How cute/pathetic!
Shortly after arriving at the Inn yesterday, my parents and I decided to wander around on the trails outside. I was skiing (classical) and my parents were snowshoeing (so as you may have guessed I got many breaks along the way waiting for them). Although, I have to mention that the trails were terrible, they weren't groomed at all. But it was nice to get some fresh air.
Then this morning we dropped Martha off at school. And once we got on the road headed home and had been on it for an hour we received a phone call from Martha. Turns out she left her backpack in our car and she needed it, so we met her halfway back to give it to her. But oh well, it happens.
And I realize I never filled you all in on how my vacation was. Well it was good and that's about all there is to say. So it's back to school for me too tomorrow.
I kicked off my excellent day at 7:45 at the High School! The ski team was gearing up and heading off to Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho for States. We also had states on Wednesday for classical, but I didn't go to that one. I had originally been dreading this meet because I was disapopinted to hear that they had a jv meet. But, once I got there I actually started looking forward to the race. The jv course was 2.5K and actually really nice. There was one long, gradual hill in the middle which completely exhausted me. But I made a good effort to keep going hard because I wanted to do well in the last meet of the season. So once I got past that I got my energy back a little and then I was basically at the end. I tried to V2 at the end for a second (it's a type of poling that makes you go faster on flat spots) but I didn't get it together in time so I just did V2 alternate really hard to the end. Alice though, did V2 very hard right to the end (I didn't see the finish, but heard about it) so that was a great end to her season. We left before we could get the results though, so I unfortunately cannot update you on those.
Then I got ready for the dance and went to that with a bunch of people and it was actually very fun. And everyone looked terrific! So I had an excellent beggining to this week long vacation!
This year in math I'm taking Advanced Algebra 2, so my options for next year include FST (functions, statisics and trig I think- thanks for the correction Kate) or pre-calc. Mrs. Beem (my current math teacher) has already recommended me for one (I don't know which yet) so I will probably take whatever she recommends. Although, I'm anticipating that she will recommend FST because math isn't really my strongest subject, nor do I plan to major in any math-related subject during college. My next big task will be to decide which history class to take. My options there are American Lit. (which combines an English class and American history), AP US, and US history. I have no idea what to do there either, my big plan is to ask Mr. Castle (my teacher) what he thinks and do that. Then finally I need to choose electives, and I want to take something interesting. I'm also considering the possibility of doing an independent study, although I don't know on what.
Now, moving on from school I would just like to quickly address something that has been in the news recently. I heard this first in my global class and then on the news tonight that in France, they are banning Muslims from wearing headscarves in school. First of all, I think that if they're planning on making a rule like that, to ban religious symbols from school, then it should extend equally to all religious symbols. Actually, that's all I have to say about that for now.
As my last, and probably most intelligent, interesting comment of this post, I would just like to share that I found a dress in Delia's that I really need. Okay, yes, need is a huge over-statement, I'll admit that. I realize that I am very lucky to be in a position finacially where I can even consider purchasing this lovely dress, which brings me to my last comment (this one really is the last). I'm reading Nickel and Dimed (I apologize for not listing the author, I don't have the book with me) and it's a very interesting book. It's written by a writer who, as an experiment type thing, decides to try living on minimum wage for a while in a number of different settings. I haven't gotten very far in the book because I'm also reading three other books right now (I do not know how that happened, I just kept picking up books, but I do intend to finish them all), but it's a very good book and I suggest you read it.
Things you can do when you're sixteen:
a) drive, woo hoo!
b) nothing, that's it. Have fun!
So, weather permitting (and it doesn't look like it will be permitting) I'll be heading to Boston this afternoon. Although I do have back up plans to attend a ski team dinner and then watch a movie possibly. Which in turn means I'll be getting up early tomorrow morning to travel down south, yeah way down there in Boston. Ok, Kate's done which means I am too! Hooray!
Secondly, as the title may suggest I have been involved in some tennis related program activities recently. Just tonight, Alice and I ventured up to First and Fitness (a.k.a. Wedgewood) to partake in tennis lessons! It was very fun and we're looking forward to being able to play this spring/summer.
I have to go eat dinner now, so this will be it. Though I may update later on.
I realized pretty quickly that I was being inconsistent with my speed because I looked down one second at the speedometer and it said 10 mph and I looked down a second later and it said 20 mph. But, I corrected this problem pretty quickly.
The second event of the driving experience took place on a hill. Ok, so it never really occured to me that a car would just roll down a hill (haha, I know I'm smart). So we started down this long hill (not too steep, just long) and I had my foot on the gas (this is an automatic) and I suddenly realized the car was going a lot faster than it previously had been (ok, probably only like 25 mph, but it feels fast when you're used to 10 mph). So Mr. Morely (the drivers ed teacher) starts going "Okay, now break Lib. Break. Lib, break. Break" over and over, haha, and I was just kind of laughing, but I did put on the break and made a nice smooth stop at the bottom of the hill. I would also like to report that my stops are noticably smoother this week than they were last week, who knows why, they just are.
So, I'm very excited to observe Alice driving in a residential area this Friday, it should be fun. Also, Alice and I are starting tennis lessons this week! Yay! I'm looking forward to that, it should be fun. Oh and lastly, I'm happy to report that in the last two races I've been in (I'm talking about skiing now) I've done pretty well. My technique is a lot better this year than it was last year which makes a huge difference and I think I'm in better shape then I had been in previously. I guess it probably also helps that I actually ski during practice, haha. And we haven't been talking "stop and chat" breaks as often as we used to. Today was an absolutely beautiful day for skiing though, very warm. The whole team went up to Morse Farm (with the expection of me and Alice because we had to leave early to go to tap), so we skied around at the High School. So it was pretty fun. Alright, well that does it for my update today.
