Dad

I had completely given up hope on Dad posting any new entries, but to my surprise, he finally has!

Democratic National Convention

I was just watching the democratic national convention, but am now happily watching "The Daily Show," my favorite source for news. Anyhow, most of the speeches (that I've seen) this week have been pretty good. And I tell you what, when my parents head to the polls, I'll be telling them "send John Kerry," because I know that with Kerry, help is on the way. And don't forget John Edwards! I'm sure that with him in office, hope is on the way. (I really hope you've been watching the convention, otherwise this entry will sound a bit ridiculous.) So those are my thoughts on this election, but I think in the election of 2012 (assuming Kerry is in office for the next two terms), I'll be saying send Barak Obama!

So enough of that. I thought I'd mention (because he suggested I do so and because I'm such a fabulous daughter) that my dad is (in his own words) "a really great guy!" You see where I get my modesty. Then again, he does deserve some credit here, because he just observed something interesting in a commercial that most other people probably would have missed. There was a commercial with a snake that they were claiming was highly poisonous and he pointed out that the real poisonous snake would have "blablabla colored stripes," and that was in fact "a blablabla snake." Obviously I was paying close attention.

So in my closing comments tonight, I'll just stress to you again that you really ought to watch "The Daily Show." Now I'm off to bed, for I really must get my sleep in preparation for another fabulous day in the life of Lib. A day which you folks will probably not get the pleasure of hearing about, for I'm headed to Groton for the night.

Funny

So before I launch into all my usual blabbering about how my day was, etc., I just wanted to comment that Josh's link today to the Onion (regarding baby pictures), was very funny.

Anyhow, now onto the ever so important events of my day. So today at camp, a woman from the raptor center (part of VINS) brought two raptors to show us; a Barred Owl and some sort of Hawk. The owl was missing one wing and the hawk was missing one eye and some talons. And tomorrow is the last day of camp! I ought to report (because I expressed some nervousness on this site about working there before) that I have been having a splendid time. Now the only thing left to be nervous about this summer is soccer! Although I guess I needn't be that nervous. Also, for any of you that plan to be in Montpelier on Sunday and have little kids, you should go check out the Bug fest. Well, that's all for now folks!

Camp

I started work at VINS today, and it was very fun. The kids were all cool and it was nice. I had to walk down, which was very pleasant aside from the fact that my bag was semi heavy, because I had a lot of material in it from the bug nets I made for the VINS bugfest. Also, I just finished watching good old Bill Clinton give his speech at the democratic national convention, and I thought it was a fantastic speech! So that's all for now.

Today

I had a very pleasant day today. It began at 10:something AM, when Sharon from VINS came over to show me what she needed me to do for volunteering. Kate and I are helping out for the Bugfest that will be at VINS August 1st. Following that, I went to my hair cut appointment. You can relax, I didn't cut my hair short. I did trim it though, and got some nice layers and angles to add a little texture. I'm very pleased. Josh was saying the other week at the Cape that I needed to trim my hair, and he was correct.

After the hair cut, Kate and I came back to my house and began sewing bug nets. We were very successful until the bobbin ran out of the thread and I couldn't remember how to put the thread on. Don't get me wrong, I'm a pretty fabulous sewer (haha, meaning I can work the machine), but I just couldn't remember. So we called it quits for the day (I'm going to work on them more tomorrow when Mother gets home from Capsian Lake). So then, in the reponse to the incredible heat (and because we had already made plans to do so) we went swimming down at VINS with Emmett.

Then I went to Emmett's and finally figured out how to throw a frisbee. Josh had taught me a long time ago, and then I didn't do it for a while. Then today Emmett and I were throwing it and he was like "try throwing it a little harder," and I did and then I could do it. So that was neat. I also decided that golf is pretty neat. We were hitting golf balls and out of the million that I hit, one wasn't too bad! So I was pleased. Anyhow, now I'm gearing up for a fabulous weekend with Grandpa and Madeline! So that's all for now.

300

This is my 300th entry! You'd think that as I reach a mark such as this I might attempt to write a somewhat memorable entry, but instead I find the fact that I've written 300 of these fascinating enough on it's own. So the content of this entry is mainly to highlight this spectacular achievement.

Home Again

I have returned from the Cape! Oh, now don't try to hold back your excitement, I know you're just over flowing with joy right now. But to be perfectly honest, I got back yesterday. So this update is a little oudated (haha, aren't I clever for using the word 'date' twice in that sentence? Okay, well it sounds pretty darn clever to me). Anyhow, this entry may be interupted because Emmett, Myrto, Loukás and Zoë just arrived I think. I will be seeing them for the third weekend in a row! Crazy isn't it? Except that I won't see them for that long because I'm going to Albany (Vermont that is, the dear Sease's invited me, how kind!). And this of course won't help the amount of crap I get for "spending all my time with my friends." Sheesh, I mean so I see them like every second of every day, is that so bad? Noo. So I could ramble on about that for a while longer, but I'd like to go socialize. So one last comment. I was watching VH1 with my friends today and "I Love the 90's" came on and I just have to comment that it seems a bit ridiculous to have I love the 90's, cause they were like two seconds ago. But people obviously watch it, and it is the first decade in their series (you know, "I Love the 80's," and "I Love the 70's") that I actually remember. So that's neat. Oh and I seriously am working on getting some pictures on this site. Okay, no I'm not actually working on it, but I've been thinking about it, but you know how it is. It's hard to find any spare time with this crazy schedule of mine, seriously, it's just vacation after vacation. Then when I get back from vacation, I have to hang out with people! I mean honestly, so hectic. (Just kidding of course, I suppose it's a good thing that I'm not spending all my time at a computer, right?)

Cape Cod

So I'm headed to the Cape tomorrow for about five days, and I am not planning to come in contact with a computer, so don't count on any entries. I'll try to get some of the pictures from Saranac posted tonight, if not you'll just have to wait a bit. Oh, and I'm going to make an effort to take some pictures on the Cape. I have a camera, I just never manage to take any pictures. Because once I start taking pictures I end up feeling like that's all I'm doing, and I would rather just enjoy whatever I'm doing, rather than worry about recording it all. Then again, I always like looking at pictures, so I'll have to find a good compromise. That's all for now!

Saranac

So before I become too busy with other stuff, I ought to update on my splendid weekend spent at Saranac Lake. Emmett and his family kindly invited me and some other of our friends to their camp at Saranac and it was very fun. I plan to post some pictures as soon as I figure out how to do so (count on tomorrow). Because I think the pictures will speak for themselves and there's no need for me to go over every little detail. But it was very fun. Also, Kate has returned from Governors Institute where she had a fabulous time and has been rattling off random facts about this and that which she learned during her stay there.

In other news, I saw Spiderman 2 tonight and I'll be perfectly honest, I was unimpressed. But before I tear into it, I will first say in it's defense that it is based on a comic book and it was exactly what I should have expected. I liked the first one, so maybe I just wasn't in the right mood to see Spiderman. I kind of got an overdose of comic book movies after seeing Xmen and a preview for Catwoman (all you need is a preview of Catwoman before you're sick of it. Okay, that was kind of harsh... then again whatever). Anyhow, I thought this movie was pretty ridiculous and I need to head to bed now, so I guess I'll just wrap up my comments by saying I don't plan on seeing the third one.

Hiking

Before I start in on this entry, I would just like to comment on the beautiful blue moon outside!

In other events, I spent my afternoon today hiking up White Rocks! It was very pleasant, although I was majorly lagging at the end. Accompanying me on this little outing were Emmett, Tyler and Sam. For most of the hike I did a decent job keeping up with Emmett's (incredibly) quick pace. We hadn't taken a break for the entire hike until we came to place (if you've ever hiked it before) where you can either take White Rocks or Hunger. After going up that for a bit, I finally chimed in suggesting a much needed (needed for me at least) break. So we took a break and it was downhill from there, metaphorically speaking, for of course we were actually headed uphill the whole time. Sam and Emmett continued speeding up the mountain, but Tyler hung back with me as we progressed forward at a comfortable pace, taking breaks here and there. Eventually, we met Sam and Emmett at the top. I got about four feet away from the very top (literally) at which point I heard thunder and started to go the other way. Though I didn't get very far before they all pointed out that if I came this far I ought to at least get to the very top. So I did.

Though this wasn't the first time that my friends dragged me out in the middle of a thunder and potentially lightening storm (be warned, some exaggeration may occur in the next paragraph). One day started out as a simple walk back from swimming at VINS. As we reached the edge of the woods and were about to walk onto Emmett's field, the rain pounded harder and the thunder picked up, so we had to actually run across the field. But it doesn't end there... Not long after that adventure, we found ourselves hanging out at school during a lunch period in the field behind the school. We were tossing around a baseball and it began to rain. Of course, thunder followed. I urged them to go inside, incase lightening should strike, but they refused and once again we were stuck in a potentially unsafe situation. I'm almost positive there was another time, but I get dragged out into lightening storms so often, it's hard to keep track.

Although the other wasn't raining at all! It was quite splendid out, so Tyler, Emmett, Sam and Tyler's friend and I all had a nice little lunch on the State House lawn. My lunch was interrupted by a call from Ms. Katie Sease, who is currently at a Youth Activism/something Governors Institute. I was very pleased to hear from her, although she offered not much new news considering we've kept in close contact via email. Although, despite the fabulous job she's been doing keeping in touch with me and other such friends, I hear she's lagging in the keeping in touch with family department. Don't worry Steve, she's having fun! And I hear she had a good time at the Barn Dance (not), although didn't bring her own overalls. I think camps ought to learn that no one likes those dances. Then again, I suppose I'm rather biased considering most of the letters I ever sent home from camp mainly consisted of "PICK ME UP NOW!!!! I'M GOING TO DIE HERE! WAAHH, I MISS YOU! PICK ME UP!" written in large, nasty handwriting on tear stained (pathetic, isn't it?) pieces of paper. Oh, but my days of camp are over (thank God)... Though I'll be returning to camp shortly as a counselor at the VINS day camp. To be perfectly frank, I'm not completely looking forward to it.. Actually dreading it might be a fair statement. Then again, I have no desire (or excuse) to back out. What I am looking forward to is being surprised by how fun it is! Because there is no doubt in my mind that I'm actually going to have a fine time (plus I get paid, so what right do I have to complain?). Anyhow, I must be off now to finish my packing! I'm heading to Saranac Lake with Emmett, Alice, Tyler, Sam and Emmett's family. My poor family will have to survive without me during the fourth of July weekend. It'll be rough I'm sure; no one to pick up after Martha, make breakfast for, no one to serenade them with patriotic songs sung in the most soulful manner, and no one to drive around. Well, I'm sure they'll survive... Somehow. I hope you all have a nice fourth of July! Just think of our president, that's sure to inspire some patriotic feelings, right?...
