Hiking

Before I start in on this entry, I would just like to comment on the beautiful blue moon outside!

In other events, I spent my afternoon today hiking up White Rocks! It was very pleasant, although I was majorly lagging at the end. Accompanying me on this little outing were Emmett, Tyler and Sam. For most of the hike I did a decent job keeping up with Emmett's (incredibly) quick pace. We hadn't taken a break for the entire hike until we came to place (if you've ever hiked it before) where you can either take White Rocks or Hunger. After going up that for a bit, I finally chimed in suggesting a much needed (needed for me at least) break. So we took a break and it was downhill from there, metaphorically speaking, for of course we were actually headed uphill the whole time. Sam and Emmett continued speeding up the mountain, but Tyler hung back with me as we progressed forward at a comfortable pace, taking breaks here and there. Eventually, we met Sam and Emmett at the top. I got about four feet away from the very top (literally) at which point I heard thunder and started to go the other way. Though I didn't get very far before they all pointed out that if I came this far I ought to at least get to the very top. So I did.

Though this wasn't the first time that my friends dragged me out in the middle of a thunder and potentially lightening storm (be warned, some exaggeration may occur in the next paragraph). One day started out as a simple walk back from swimming at VINS. As we reached the edge of the woods and were about to walk onto Emmett's field, the rain pounded harder and the thunder picked up, so we had to actually run across the field. But it doesn't end there... Not long after that adventure, we found ourselves hanging out at school during a lunch period in the field behind the school. We were tossing around a baseball and it began to rain. Of course, thunder followed. I urged them to go inside, incase lightening should strike, but they refused and once again we were stuck in a potentially unsafe situation. I'm almost positive there was another time, but I get dragged out into lightening storms so often, it's hard to keep track.

Although the other wasn't raining at all! It was quite splendid out, so Tyler, Emmett, Sam and Tyler's friend and I all had a nice little lunch on the State House lawn. My lunch was interrupted by a call from Ms. Katie Sease, who is currently at a Youth Activism/something Governors Institute. I was very pleased to hear from her, although she offered not much new news considering we've kept in close contact via email. Although, despite the fabulous job she's been doing keeping in touch with me and other such friends, I hear she's lagging in the keeping in touch with family department. Don't worry Steve, she's having fun! And I hear she had a good time at the Barn Dance (not), although didn't bring her own overalls. I think camps ought to learn that no one likes those dances. Then again, I suppose I'm rather biased considering most of the letters I ever sent home from camp mainly consisted of "PICK ME UP NOW!!!! I'M GOING TO DIE HERE! WAAHH, I MISS YOU! PICK ME UP!" written in large, nasty handwriting on tear stained (pathetic, isn't it?) pieces of paper. Oh, but my days of camp are over (thank God)... Though I'll be returning to camp shortly as a counselor at the VINS day camp. To be perfectly frank, I'm not completely looking forward to it.. Actually dreading it might be a fair statement. Then again, I have no desire (or excuse) to back out. What I am looking forward to is being surprised by how fun it is! Because there is no doubt in my mind that I'm actually going to have a fine time (plus I get paid, so what right do I have to complain?). Anyhow, I must be off now to finish my packing! I'm heading to Saranac Lake with Emmett, Alice, Tyler, Sam and Emmett's family. My poor family will have to survive without me during the fourth of July weekend. It'll be rough I'm sure; no one to pick up after Martha, make breakfast for, no one to serenade them with patriotic songs sung in the most soulful manner, and no one to drive around. Well, I'm sure they'll survive... Somehow. I hope you all have a nice fourth of July! Just think of our president, that's sure to inspire some patriotic feelings, right?...
