Home Again

We arrived in Montpelier at around 8:30 last night after a very smooth (but long) trip home. I'm very happy to be home, even though it's a little chilly, and happy to see all my friends again. I don't think I'll be feeling the effects of jetlag too much, just because I went to bed last night at about 12. I woke up at around 8 today, so I'm a little tired, but I think I will be on a normal Montpelier schedule by tomorrow. Just in time for school on Tuesday! Check out Dad's site for some pictures. That's all for now.

Back to Vermont

So tonight at 9:30 we'll begin our long trip back to Vermont. I thought I'd have more to say about that... But not really, that pretty much sums it up. Well okay, I have four things to say:

1) I can't believe I've been gone a whole month, that's a long time.

2) I have a cd player, so the trip home should be much more comfortable and go by faster. (For those of you who didn't know, my old cd player broke and it gave to me time to realize I felt sick - because I was dehydrated- which led to me throwing up, ew).

3) I'm going to give Myrto credit and say she achieved her goal of making me talk back to her a little more (which she is hoping will prepare me to talk back to everyone a little more, we'll see).

4) One thing I must remember to do when I get home is ponder Effie's question: "After staying in a house full of wonderulf women for two weeks, what have you learned?". So I have to think of a good reply for her. That's all I have to say. Next time I update, I'll be home!

Back to the House

So we're spending our last night back at the Flessas house. I have all my belongings all packed up (except for what I need, which is in my backpack). So it's been an incredible trip (thanks Myrto for inviting me to come early and thanks mother for taking me!). But I'm also very excited to get home and see all my buds! Not to mention school starts the following Tuesday, very exciting of course. So go check out Al's website for more!

Last Few Days

So I'm coming home really soon! On Friday, we'll leave the island at 9:30 (at night) on a three hour boat ride to Athens. Once we arrive there, we'll take a one hour bus ride to the airport (eeewwwww), where we'll sit around and wait till it's time to leave. At about 6:40, my mom and I will (hopefully, knock on wood) take off, and the rest will follow shortly after (at 7). So that will be a three hour or so ride to Paris (Zurich for the others), then a six hour plane ride from there to Boston. Once in Boston we'll have a three hour drive home! But, there are six of us with only five seats (I know, so dangerous, but that's just the way it's gonna be). Luckily, out of Chris, Martha, Alice, my mom and myself, I'm the biggest so I get to be up front! But I'll try not to rub it in their faces too much. I don't think Alice, Martha or Chris even know that yet... Oh well. They'll find out soon enough. Of course if there ends up being a lot of whining about it, I could end up in back. But that'd be worse for everyone cause I'd take up more room. (haha, no I didn't get that fat in Greece, don't worry). So I'm sure I'll let you know how it all works out. Unless of course I'm so sick of travelling that I can't even bear to tell you about it, that's possible. In any case, I shall see many (but sadly, not all) of you in a matter of days!

Gelato

So Greece is still nice, the beaches are lovely, blablabla. But the real story is in Gelato. So, Alice and I have become regulars at the Gelato place. So, for example when we leave every night they say "see you tomorrow!". But tonight was particularly heart warming because after we order and paid for our ice cream, the lady gave us two free bags (nice, canvas bags) with their logo on them! It's just about the sweetest gesture ever, so we're very happy. :)

Unfortunately however, I hear it's starting to resemble fall at home? Sigh, I guess no opportunity to show off my tan. Oh well, can't complain. I'll be home in four days! Woo hoo! Alice on the other hand.... we're leaving her in Greece, we thought it'd be better for everyone.

Injuries

So don't worry I don't have any injuries (except I slightly scraped my shoulder on a rock), but after watching Million Dollar Baby last night with Al my fear of inury has increased by about a million percent. So I wish I could ruin the end for you, but I hate it when people do that, so I'll refrain. But it won't hurt to tell you that you see a broken nose (duh, it's about boxing) and it's gross. So I guess that's all I really have to say about that. Be careful when you're playing sports this fall, it'd be a bummer to have a broken nose! Or any broken bones for that matter.

Oh and yes, Greece is still lovely. I'm coming home in five days, yay!! Oh and also, here's an email I recieved from my brother that you might appreciate:

"Oh please, Lib, I beg you, read this article:

article link

There is a whole business called Club Libby Lu. Please have Martha read
this at the same time as you. Are you sure that you and Martha aren't
playing an elaborate April Fool's Day trick on us?

The Tragedy of the Shoes

So I must tell you about the extreme bad luck I've had with a certain pair of shoes. So I saw this pair of shoes about a week ago or so, here on Paros, that I absolutely loved. Usually, I don't care too much about shoes, but I just loved these. Then I looked at the price and it said 95 Euros, so I was like "forget it." However, I noticed later that the price had been reduced to 25 Euros, so I thought I was pretty lucky. I went in to try them on, and it turns out they only had one pair left and they were a size 36, which is wwaayy too small for me. So I was just recovering from that extreme disappointment when Alice managed to find the exact same pair online! And, the last size they had left was my size. So I thought "okay, I'd better get them soon." I went back a few hours later with my dad and his credit card... The only color left was a nasty orange color, my shoes had been bought. So I've finally given up, but I just had to share my awful experience with everyone.

On the other hand, Greece continues to be wonderful. Alice, my parents and I took a 20 minute boat ride yesterday over to Antiparos (a nearby island) to check out some caves up in the moutains. I had already been, but they were still just as cool. Then we swam at a beach and came home. Also, Emmett arrived last night which was wonderful. Tonight I think Alice and I are going to go see a movie (we don't know what's playing, but it's just fun to go). Then for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday my parents are renting a car so we can go to some farther away beaches. Then that brings us pretty close to the end of my trip! Then it's school!

I'm half looking forward to school. I always like school because you see everyone, you get to go to games, and this year we get to decide what to do with the next four years of our life. However, I'm still not looking forward the homework aspect, as you might have guessed. But considering that after being gone for a little over a month feels like a week, I'm pretty confident that this year will go by super fast, which is a good and bad thing. Anyways, that's all for now, I'm off to the beach!

Life In Greece

So yesterday was the big celebration here (the assumption of the virgin I think). So we watched a parade and saw fireworks, all that good stuff. Oh and you should all keep reading my site, because Myrto is going to have a guest entry soon. Knowing Myrto, it will definitely be worth reading. Oh, but if she tries to tell you I spend all my time at the internet, I swear it's not true!! So that's all for now! And to the FitzGeralds: Welcome home from Africa!!

"We're Playing Bas-ket-ballll..."

So Alice is here! We keep singing that Lil' Bow Wow song " We're playing basketball" haha, I love it. It's been very fun so far! Let's see, oh well last night we were wandering around (because there's no such thing as a curfew here, and we don't have to check it or anything, woo hoo! haha) and Chris and Martha decided to go to a club. First I should explain that Chris is one of the very few black people on the island, or the whole country for that matter, and second of all he dresses like he's straight out of the hood (well he's from Brooklyn, so it makes sense). Anyways, that's very different from the whole European style (where guys wear pants that fit, and all that) so they all love him. So some people came up to him and were like "you have to come to this club, it's just for you!" So he went and basically got VIP treatment and he's an incredible hip hop dancer so they were all going up to him being like "I LOVE hip hop" and apparently some were saying "I love black people!" which we all found amusing. Anyhoo, Alice and I had an interesting night too. We were sitting out on the main street (at like 1:30 in the morning or so) and these people got into a fight, like an actual fist fight. So that was amusing. Well, not for them I'm sure. So you can go read Alice's live journal (link is on the sidebar) for more info about our trip.

Good Ol' Myrto

So Myrto decided that her new goal was to really get to me. Meaning tease me until I give her an actual response (for those of you who have never teased me, I usually give a really unsatisfying giggle). I think Myrto would really understand how Paul feels, for example. This whole past year he tried and tried to make fun of me, but usually ended up putting his head down and sighing a very annoyed sigh. Here's an example of one of our conversations:

Paul: Hey Lib, I hate you, I hope you disappear forever (remember high school joking is less joke and more mean)

Lib: (laughing happily) Oh Paul, you're hilarious, but don't worry, I won't ever leave you! Cause we're best friends!

Now, after that Paul might try to continue, but he usually just gives up and admits that I'm impossible to make fun of. (Of course I realize that some of you might now take that as a challenge to make fun of me, but go ahead, I'm prepared). Paul might also try tactics like this:

Paul: Hey Lib, Tyler told me he hates you and wants to break up with you.

Lib: Oh really? That's too bad, but hey then I'll have more time to hang out with you!

Now it's not that I'm really disgustingly sweet (although some might think I am), it's just that I've had years of practice at how to really piss people off. Take Martha and I for example; when we were little we'd get into arguements sometimes, and I'd get over them really quickly and be ready to play again, but she'd stay mad for a long, and it made her even more angry that I was already over it. I believe my brother Emmett may have used similar tactics to annoy our super fabulous sister Melissa.

But it's not to say that I can't be annoyed. I think of all people, Kate is the queen of annoying me. Not in general, but when she wants to, she can. That's what you get for being friends with someone for your whole life. Then again, another result of a life long friendship is that we can really, really annoy other people when we want. I don't know why this whole entry is rambling about being annoying, but you can deal. Anyways, don't worry, Kate and I have to be, as my dad would say, in rare form to break out the really annoying behavior. Alright, well that ends my annoying entry. I'll be sure to let you know if Myrto suceeds.

Two Weeks

So tomorrow, I will have been here for two weeks. Fun! Also, I'd like to point out that I've been updating more than the at home updaters (Julie, Allen). They must be up to something fun. Oh and Myrto repremanded me for going to the internet place. She said she'd kick my butt if I went more than once a day. I tried to explain that computer addiction runs in my family, but she wouldn't listen. Anyways, don't worry, I have not been going to the internet place more than I should. I've been enjoying my lovely vacation. Well that's really all I have to say for now.

A Little Over A Week

That's how long I've been here. I think I'm having friend withdrawl. Haha, but I'm surviving. Speaking of withdrawl and being addicted to things, I had a coffee today, well a latte or whatever. Myrto made it. I do not drink coffee (not to be all healthy and condescending, but because I don't like the taste), but I tried it. The result: I still do not drink coffee. Coffee ice cream is acceptable. Speaking of ice cream, there's a gelato place here that's run by an Italian woman and it is amazing. I've always enjoyed ice cream, but a lot of times it's really more of a social snack for me, like I eat it when other people are eating it. On my own, I usually don't eat a lot of ice cream. However, if I had gelato at home, that might be different.

So I really can't believe it's already Sunday. Shocking. By this coming Thursday, I will have been gone for two whole weeks. That's really surprisingly to me actually. It doesn't feel like it's zooming by, but it sort of is. Oh and welcome home Kate! Although I'm not in Vermont to actually welcome Kate home, I can appreciate her return via email. Myrto commented today that my experience in Paros is very different than hers ever was in that I contact my friends a lot more often. If I were here without access to email, I would survive fine, however I can't resist it when the option is there.

I've also been happily anticipating the arrival of Alice, because that will inevitable mean shopping! I have not, if you can believe it, looked into a single shop since I got here. I've been busy with going to the beach (twice a day in order to keep the kids out of the sun during the middle of the day, very tiring, but it makes for a nice tan), getting ice cream, and getting sleep. Also Alice is notorious for carrying cameras, everywhere! And I would like to have some proof, other than a long absence, that I was actually in Paros. Because I haven't broken out a camera yet. I don't know, some people are camera people, some people aren't. It's just that whenever I have a camera I feel really obligated to be taking pictures and therefore don't get to enjoy the place as much, because I'm worrying so much about getting pictures of it. Also dad shall arrive with Alice (on Friday), which means pictures as well.

Oh, one last, pretty irrelevant and unimportant comment, there are hardly any mirrors in the house here. I have three tiny little mirrors, but pretty much, I'm mirrorless. I don't really know what I have to say about that though, except that it's different from home. One difference it makes is that I spend much less time getting ready to go places. Much less time. Hm, well those are my thoughts for tonight!

Corrections

So my dear father, instead of saying "Lib I miss you sooo much! I love your entries!", decided to make a few corrections which I ought to pass on to you. First of all my suncreen has UVA/UVB blockers in it, as opposed to just UVA/UVB which would imply the rays themselves. Secondly, the interenet phone is not completely free (unless you're talking to someone else with the same thing), it does cost a small amount of money. For simplicity reasons, and in comparison to the cell phones over here, I decided to write free. But now you know.

I also ought to share with you a very rare thing I experienced today. It rained in Paros!!! Can you believe that? I was shocked. This is my fifth time in nine years visiting Greece and it's never rained. Of course it does rain here during the winter, and occasionally during the summer, but it was the first time I had seen more than a few white clouds scattered in the blue sky. That is all for now!

Sunscreen

In response to Josh's update to say sunscreen is good for you, I would like to say I've been very good about it! I am not the least bit burned, and I've been using SPF 30 every day with UVA/UVB in it. I have a nice healthy glow that's fitting for my fair skin. Well, considering I'm in Greece, I'd say it's more of a radiant tan than a healthy glow. Like my nice words to describe my tan? I figured since I've been so good about sunscreen I deserved to use lovely words like "radiant", and "glow". Anyways, I must get back to my online phone call (it's free! can you believe it? cause it's over the internet) with Tyler. Myrto and my mom were commenting that I've been talking to Tyler more than they've talked to their husbands. Silly, isn't it? Anyways, that's all for now!

In Paros

Eight days ago, I set off with my mother on our journey to Paros, Greece. After a quick drive to Burlington, and a speedy flight to New York, we ran into our first obstacle. Our plane that was to take us from New York to Paris was delayed about an hour. (Of course I was absorbed in Harry Potter at the time, so I didn't really do much to join my mother's worrying). Anyways, we finally did leave for Paris. The flight was about six hours, but thanks to Harry Potter and my cd player, it wasn't too bad. However, things took a turn for the annoying when we arrived in Paris.

We had missed our connecting flight to Athens, which was what my mother had been worrying about. So, we stood in line for literally an hour and a half or so with other people in simliar situations. When we got to the counter (we were some of the last people in line, and there were only like three people working the counters) it took another 45 minutes to get things sorted out. At first they said they would fly us to Budapest (yeah right) and then we'd fly from there to Athens and arrive at 3 in the morning. So my mother broke out her "don't mess with me, I'm a lawyer" voice and we ended up staying in a hotel in Paris for the night and setting off for Athens the next morning.

From there, things went smoothly. We met up with Myrto, Loukas, Zoe and Effie at the boat and then went to Paros. So I've been here for a week now, and it will be another week before my dad, Martha, Chris and Alice arrive. So it's been wonderful being here, the beach is lovely, the food is delicious, the company is fabulous. Although I have to say, it sounds like people saved all the fun stuff until I left. I've gotten emails from people about going to different people's camps, or going to Red Sox games, or seeing Sandra Bullock and this and that. When I was home all we did was go to VINS. Oh but don't worry, I'm hardly complaining. The only person it would be fair to be jealous of is Emmett who is off exploring Africa. But I already told my dad he's taking me there next year, haha, we'll see how that goes. But for now, I'm headed to the beach! I shall update again as soon as I can ( I mean techincally I could do it every day, but I only like to spend so much time in the internet cafe). Oh and one more thing, Myrto was telling me that if you went to Parosweb.com (sorry I don't feel like making it into a link for you) then you could see from a camera the very seat I'm sitting at to write this to you! Assuming I'm there when you look, otherwise you'll just see some random person.

So it's 12:52 here, and 5:52 at home. So grown ups I suppose you'll be getting up in an hour or so for work, and my dear friends, I'm sure you won't be up for hours. I hope every has a nice day! Bye!
