St. Libby

So Hannah, Alison and I are still enjoying our stay in St. Lucia. I must say, my absolute favorite part is the people. Everyone is very friendly, they'll say hello and get into a long conversation. Although I've decided that smiling and talking to people in dark allies isn't a good idea, haha (no worries father, Hannah and I were just taking a walk, it was very safe). So I love the people here, so much so that maybe I'll just have to move here some day. Our bus today (their buses by the way are like extended vans, and the driving is a little shady) got pulled over by the policemen (who ride around in the back of a pick up truck) beacuse our driver started driving in the other lane to avoid traffic. But it was all good. Last night we went to a street party or "jump up" in the next town over because our friend we met at the beach told us to go. It was really cool, there was lots of music and food and people. Tonight we just wandered the streets here a bit and there are like trillions of people. We had to come back though because we need to rest up before our trek into the rain forest tomorrow!

So basically it's really neat here. Although I've given up telling people my name is Libby cause they just don't get it. It's like:

St. Lucian guy: Hello, how are you?

Me: (with a super nice Lib smile of course) I'm good, how are you?

St. Lucian guy: (of course picture all this with a carribean accent) Are you enjoying your stay here?

Lib: Oh mm hmm! It's really nice!

St. Lucian guy: My name is (fill in the blank)
Lib: (having no idea what his name is) I'm Libby.
St. Lucian guy: (leaning closer in hopes to understand such a foreign name) What?
Lib: Libby
St. Lucian guy: hmm?
Lib: Li-bby
St. Lucian guy: (looking confused) Emily?
Lib: mm, Elizabeth.
St. Lucian guy: Oh yes, Elizabet.

So that's the gist of some of the conversations. Well now I must go rest up!

St. Lucia, Man

We have arrived in St. Lucia!! After a long pleasant day at the beach I almost forgot how long it took to get here. Our day started at 4 AM yesterday when we went to the airport. We flew to Jamaica where we found out our flight had been delayed! So the airport sent us to a hotel (so now I can officially say I've been to Jamaica) and finally we departed for St. Lucia. But it was a long, bumpy bus ride to get to the town we're in, Rodney Bay. It's been a very pleasant day though. Some St. Lucian guy ended up spending a good portion of the day with us at the beach, just because he was friendly. And what can I say, Alison, Hannah and I are pretty cute, haha.

So far, my agenda is going well: Day 1) get base tan. Day 2) even out blochy base tan. Day 3) really protect my skin in attempt to reverse the exposure of the two days ealier. Day 4) relax, all the damage has been done, haha. No, I've actually been taking pretty good care to not get sunburned. Well, that does it for today! I'll update again later I'm sure.

Stocks

So in economics we're playing a stock game, where we spend the whole semester buying and selling stocks (it's just a game though). Anyways, a lot of people are making a lot of money by investing in Apple, which is smart because Apple is awesome, but it's so uncreative, so I'm resisting the urge to do so myself. But anyways, I should start focusing on my vacation and forget about my stocks. Now it's bedtime, so I get can up for my early flight!

Sledding Adventures

I was just reading Josh's latest entry about his pleasant sled ride in the woods, and decided as a farewell entry (before I go to St. Lucia) I'd update about my recent sledding adventure! Since the snow finally decided to return I've been sledding twice. I went last night with a bunch of friends and it was fabulous. Except sledding is one of those things (like horseback riding, but not as extreme) that I'm slightly terrified of. Not so scared that I won't do it, but the kind of scared where you try to back out at the last minute. Aside from getting like pounds of snow flying in my face, it was awesome. And walking through the fields of Sabin's Pasture on the way back a few of my friends thought they would be able to tackle me into the snow, but what they forgot was that I happen to be incredibly strong, fabulously resistent to attacks, basically just unbeatable. So needless to say their efforts were useless (these events were loosely based on a true story... the unbeatable part may be a little less true than the rest).

Anyhoo, as much as I would like to go downhill skiing tomorrow, I'm afraid I'll be just too busy travelling to a warm beach in St. Lucia (haha, not that I'm trying to rub it in your face or anything). I would like to go skiing when I get back though. Oh and also I would like to watch the boys play off games, which would mean they'd have to win the three I'll be missing while away. Good luck!

Okay, one last really boring comment. Every time I say something like "they would have had to" or something like that, I always think of Spanish because we just learned how to do all those types of tenses. Yup, that was my random, boring note.

Earrings

So I had a pair of earrings that I really loved and then Abra gave me a new pair (from Spain) when I was at Emmett's one night. So I removed the old beloved earrings to make room for the new ones, and in doing so, left the old ones at Emmetts. They were there for a while and I had finally retrieved them... only to lose them again last night. Sigh. I guess I just wasn't meant to have those earrings.

Sugarlib

So I went to Sugarbush today with some of my friends and I must say it was very pleasant! The weather was lovely, and I just enjoyed the whole day. In fact, I may even go again tomorrow!

Also, happy birthday my dear old brother Emmett!

And Vacation Has Begun

A bunch of Montpelier kids are right now on their way to Thailand, others are practicing basketball or playing hockey, some are at the gym working out, some are at Democracy Awards or something at the state house and I'm sitting here contemplating how to enjoy this pleasant Friday afternoon. The weather has been very nice lately, although I don't think I'll mind the warmer weather I'm going to find in St. Lucia! I'm leaving on Wednesday for St. Lucia with Hannah and Alison, so I'm very much looking forward to that. But for now I just have to find an alternative to watching tv this afternoon, take a walk maybe? Well, we'll see.

The Dictionary of Allen Rice

As a Valentines Day gift to all my readers, I thought I'd enlighten you with the newest words that enhance the vocabulary of my friends and I (okay, not all my friends, I think some of them would strongly deny ever using these words, but they slip them in every now and then). I ought to also take a moment to honor Alice and Kate, without whom these words would be meaningless.

Allen:

1) Can be used as an adjective to describe someone or something that is dorky. ex) "Oh my god, you are such an allen in that hat."

2) Used as a call to official Allen club members ex) "Allens, get over here."

3) Alice's nickname

Budface

1) A term of endearment to be used in a really whiny tone. ex) "Budface! Help me find my glove!"-Kate "Um, did you just call me buttface?"-Alice

It's Not That Bad

1) This must be said in a monotone, slightly high pitched and nasaly type of voice. Also, you won't get the full effect unless you raise your eyebrows and open your eyes really wide. Go ahead, try it, I know you want to. It was originated during Chemistry one day by Alice and myself.

Yuh-huh

1) This isn't a specifically Allen type word, but it annoys Emmett (FitzGerald) when you say it.

Ser Dog

1) It means "seriously, I know."

So now you've had a small sampling of our vocabulary. And Kate and Alice I hope you enjoyed me dedicating all this space to our jokes!

Drop It Like It's Hot

So there was a dance last night up at National Life which was very fun. And I must say we all looked pretty fabulous in all our fancy shmancy clothes. So that's all for now!

Queen Sophers

I love this picture. When I saw it it just made me think of Sophie like landing from outer space and coming to take over the world.

Snow Day!

Hooray! Today we had a Snow Day! I can think of plenty of words to continue my rhyming, but it all sounds a little too forced. Anyways, it has been a very nice week considering I got to spend the first half of it spending time outside without a winter coat, playing basketball outside (in Tyler's driveway, where I beat him, mm hmm, that's right, I did), and I got to spend today sledding in the beautiful new snow! Alice and I have also been hard at work making our skirts for the semi formal this weekend. We decided we wouldn't have enough time to get to Burlington, so we might as well be really creative and make our own skirts! But I think I'll head to bed now so that I can hopefully get up in time for school tomorrow.

Squeaky Clean

I hadn't washed my car since, well since I started driving it, so I was planning on doing it this past weekend, but I didn't. But luckily for me, the rain washed it off! What a great lesson, if you put something off long enough, it'll get done eventually.

Deja Ew (Haha, get it? It's like Deja Vu)

I was reminded of my encounter last year with cleaning up one of the dog's messes today. Two certain 19 year olds in this house, who will remain nameless, were apparently incapable of cleaing up the mess despite the fact that they were home almost alll day. So, a certain, very responsible, 16 year old who had just returned home from a long day at school had to clean it up. I had to update about it, cause it was nasty and I'm giving myself a nice pat on the back for not saving it for my poor parents to clean. Call me a brown noser, or call me a sweet, wonderful child, just don't call me irresponsible (doesn't that sound very speech like?). Seriously though, the only pet I'm ever going to get is like a fish.

April Showers... In February

It's been a little rainy all day today, which is quick shocking in February I must say... Oh and I guess I didn't have enough faith in my team last night, because UCONN won (I didn't watch the end so I don't know what the score was). That's all for now.

Spring In February

It's been shockingly warm these past few days, and while it isn't what I would expect of early February in Vermont, I can't complain. On the downside, the warm weather has been depleting our supply of snow here (though I'm not too worried, I'm sure it'll be around long enough for people to get really sick of it). This almost posed a problem today for the ski meet scheduled at Morse Farm, but we proceeded with it anyhow. I chose not to race (to the disappointment of many - you can thank Molly, I'm following in her footsteps, chuckle chuckle), those who did said despite bad trail conditions it was actually very pleasant. On top of that I have surprisingly little homework tonight! Now I must get back to rooting for UCONN (although I'm thinking they're going to lose to Syracuse, oh well).

MEEP MEEP MEEP MEEP!

That's what my cars says when that alarm goes off, which I discovered today when I parked downtown to go to my tap class. It went off after a while (but I missed the sound so much that I just had to open the door and set it off again, and also to retrieve my tap bag). After class Becky's mom helped me figure it out (since my parents must have sensed I need them and were avoiding my calls).

In other, less noisy news, Ruthie has returned from Switzerland! Now we have all our buddies home from their foreign adventures, showing up all the French and Spanish students with their fabulous accents. So that about does it for tonight, now I'm off to enjoy my first night in a bit without lots of homework and stuff going on!

Lib's Mission

I contemplated for a moment titling this "Libby's Mission", but decided to go with Lib instead. Anyhoo, Emmett mentioned to me in school today that just as he was going to start reading my site (better late than never), I started slacking with entries. So I remembered that I must fulfill my duty to my dedicated readers to update everyday on the newest thoughts and events from Lib! Oh and just so you're all aware (I'm sure you already are, but I thought I'd remind you) it's Black history month! So feel free to spend this month (and any other month for that matter) studying up and pondering the many hurdles African Americans have been (and continue to be) forced through. Now unfortunately I must go, but I will return at some point to keep up my mission of keeping you informed (about me, haha, and all sorts of good stuff).
