hot

It was pretty hot today. Not moving very much made the heat somewhat tolerable, but once I started moving it got uncomfortable. Having air conditioning would be nice, but seeing as Vermont is cool/cold for the majority of the year, it doesn't make much sense. So far this summer, I've managed to not be too lazy, although I've been slipping more towards laziness this week. I'll have to find something to do to keep me busy... (study for my permit test maybe?)

Goal for tomorrow: stay cool (should it be another hot day)

Shady Rill

I just got back from a delightful dip in Shady Rill. It was pretty cold, but not nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Luckily, today wasn't as hot as yesterday-the rain really cooled everything down. So, I'm now off to watch a movie.

Goal for eventually: GET PERMIT!!!!!

Harry Potter

Well, I just finished all 870 pages of the fifth Harry Potter. It was soo good!! I really don't want to say much more because I most definetly don't want to ruin the book for those of you who haven't yet read it.

Also, I just noticed today, that I haven't been swimming all summer. Quite disappointing.. I'll have to do something about that. All I need is a car and a drivers lisence (but maybe I should get my permit first..) and I can go to the best swimming holes. But, until that happens, I'll have to find somewhere else to swim.

Goal for tomorrow:go outside

Birthday

Happy birthday Paul McCartney. (and thanks Mom for reminding me). So far, I, surprisingly, haven't spent my summer being increidbly lazy! On Monday, I cleaned the house (not for free of course). On Tuesday, I played soccer and hung out with Abra and today I went to Burlington with Tyler.

We saw the first half of "Italian Job" and it looks like it could be pretty interesting. Movies like that though, invovling theives, revenge, and the like usually aren't my cup of tea. But I can stand them every now and then. For example, "Bourne Identity" was one of those action type movies that I actually really enjoyed. Though, I am always up to see romantic comedies.. much to the dismay of my sister. On Monday night, I saw "About a Boy," starring Hugh Grant and again I only saw the first half of it, but I really enjoyed it.

Also, I can't remeber if I've already mentioned this on a previous update, but my new favorite cd is "Rent." The soundtrack from the broadway play. So I've listened to that about a million times in only a few short days. Though, I'm trying to limit how much I listen to it, because the last thing I want to do is get sick of it.

Goal for tomorrow: get outside, play soccer, finish "About a Boy"

SUMMER

It still hasn't settled in that today is in fact the first day of summer. I had my last exam today, geology, and now I'm done for the year. I would sound more excited, but as I've said, I still haven't quite realized that school is over. You can except no updates for tonight or tomorrow, because I will not be home. I'm off to a friends camp until tomorrow!! Then, I'll come home only to be welcomed by Josh and Kara, who are visiting this weekend for a wedding.

Oh, also, you might be interested in the meeting I went to last night. The meeting was for a Costa Rica trip I'm taking this summer with VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural Science). Alice and Molly will also being going on this trip. It will be very exciting. Except that we were informed that in Costa Rica, live these tiny little bugs called chiggers. I'm not so much looking forward to seeing any of those. The poison snakes might also be a slight drawback, haha. But I'm not too worried. Lastly, we were also told last night that we may be taking a horseback trip to a volcano! That will be very exciting, except that I'm scared of horses. I know I'm definetly going to get some physco horse that will run up the volcano and walk off the edge or something.... Ah well.

Goal for tomorrow: have fun!!

News

I was just watching the news while enjoying my dinner when I saw a story that was apart from the usual Predisent Bush, monkeypox news stuff. It was about a pretty young (probably in his 20's) Black guy who was driving drunk along some road. So the cops started chasing after him and he finally got out of his car and began staggering over to some store. He was holding up a cell phone that the police claimed to think was a gun. So, they shot him eight times in the back. The tape was later analyzed and decided that it was in fact a cell phone.

I have a few problems with this story. Firstly, from 10-20 feet away from someone you should be able to tell the difference between a cell phone and a gun. Secondly, I really don't think there is a need to shoot someone eight times in a row. Even one shot would signifigantly impair most people, so eight is obviously overboard. And lastly, the fact that they shot him in the back is even worse. Had they shot him in the front there may have been some reason to think he was threatening them, but walking away isn't very threatening.

In the end, they determined it a "police suidice" or something like that, which means the victims forced the cops to kill him- gave them no other choice. Though based on my knowlage of the story, that's ridiculous. Some people are saying the cops were being racist and I'm sure that was a part of it, but I think mainly it was a case of the cops overreacting and using deadly force as the first resort instead of the last.

Classroom

I just read Josh's website and was reading about the article he read that was about trying to mix kids of different levels in one class. I agree with Josh that this is a terrible idea. My school basically organizes kids into different groups based on how smart they are basically. I think that's good because then kids who pick things up faster can go at a faster pace, and those who need more time on certain topics get that extra time. When you try to mix them up, just as Josh said, the smart kids get bored and lazy and the kids who are a little slower don't even know what's going on.

In the past, at school we've had to get into groups to work on projects and (mainly when we were younger, not so much now) we'd have to include smart kids and not so smart kids. So it usually ended up that one or two kids in the group would end up doing all the work.

Basically, I just re-worded what Josh said on his site, but oh well.

Goal for week: see last update

Almost the End of School

Well, I'm sure you've all noticed that I've been slacking on the updates, but I have a good reason. I have been pretty busy with family visiting and studying for exams. I have exams all this week and then school is over! Only four more days until I'm completely through with school for this year. Yay!

Goal for tomorrow and the rest of the week: do well on exams

Bend it Like Beckham

I saw "Bend it like Beckham" last night and it was so good! I really liked it, and I would describe it, but I think you should all just go see it instead.

Goal for today: do some homework

Interesting Article

I just read an interesting article that Josh sent me. The article was basically about three teenage girls who taught FBI agents who were trying to catch child pornographers about how to sound like teenage girls.

That (teaching FBI agents) would definetly be a fun thing to do. Then again, these girls were obviously only representing the stereotype of teenage girls. Beacuse if all girls were like that, it would be increidbly annoying. First of all, I'm not a huge fan of using little "code words" when instant messaging. I must admit that I do in fact say "lol" (laugh out loud) a lot. And when I think about what it literally stands for, it's pretty stupid, but it's just so conveinient.

Secondly, I noticed that they thought Led Zeplin was "just not cool," and I completely disagree with that too. No offence to anyone who likes Destiny's Child, but I'd rather listen to Led Zeplin any day. I also noticed that they didn't think George Clooney was cute, and neither do I, but I certianly know a lot of teenage girls who do.

Yet, my personal opinions of their taste on some things aside, I think I would definetly believe, talking to one of those FBI agents, that they were a teenage girl. Plus, it's a pretty cool that they (those girls) got to do that. I only wonder if they got paid....

Goal for tomorrow: study for finals

Ah yes, I think I'll mention that I'm going to see "Bend it like Beckham" tonight so I'm very excited! You can expect a complete reveiw of it either tonight or tomorrow.

Birthday

Happy birthday Alice!

So tomorrow a huge portion of my family is visiting. All because of Martha's graduation. So that should be fun, except that I'll be the only one there with homework to do! Other than that, I don't have anything else to update on.

Goal for tomorrow: make more progress on projects for school.

Birthday Party

My lack of updates this weekend was due to the fact that I wasn't anywhere near a computer. That's because I was in MA celebrating Loukás and Zoë's birthdays. I had fun playing with the little kids, but at the same time it doesn't take long to get tired of playing hide and go seek, or tag. But nonetheless, all the kids were very cute! So that was fun.

Now, not only is the end of school quickly approaching, but Martha's graduation is even nearer, Thursday to be exact. Next year, she'll be off to college, leaving me an only child!

Goal for tomorrow: make signifigant progress on projects for school. (Because time is running out!)
