What Was I Thinking?
I'm sitting in my room right now, doing absolutely nothing and waiting to go to dinner in fifteen minutes. I've checked Facebook, I've checked my email, I've checked the RA website, and I guess there are a million other websites I could check before I resort to truly random online wanderings, but alas, my subconscious is taking over and I just found myself going to google and typing in
donuts to the image search. Lo and behold, gazillions of perfectly
frosted and
glazed donuts--
pink,
chocolate,
sprinkles, yum! But why? Why would I do that to myself? I don't know... One of life's mysteries. It must be the same part of my brain at work that created an intense desire within me to watch the cooking channel all day when I got my wisdom teeth out and was restricted to disguting soft foods. What hungry, torturous
monster doth live inside my brain?

That Homework Must Be Pretty Funny, eh?
I will not read The Onion in the library anymore, supressing laughter is not an easy feat.
Enjoy!

Hey, I'm a Genius
Yes Dad, I know it's late, but I just made a fascinating discovery. So I bought some
chapstick (yes, that brand) on Sunday because I had just run out of my old cherry chapstick, which is what I always use. The store didn't have cherry, so I bought "classic," knowing that I'm sometimes sensitive to different lip balms. So I bought it, and lo and behold, had a reaction to it. I used it for a couple of days and my lips were burning and having all sorts of symptoms that they shouldn't, and I suspected the lip balm. I looked up online and couldn't find anything helpful. The labels of the
cherry versus
classic were unhelpful, because only the active ingredients were listed. So I did further research on the chapstick website, noted that there were only about three different ingredients in the inactive ingredient section between the two. For one, classic contained Oleyl alcohol whereas cherry did not. I suspected this could be the culprit because alcohol is very harsh on skin sometimes. I searched online for "olely alcohol allergies" and came up with a blackwell-synergy.com
document that was clearly from a scholarly journal (many references, volume number given, etc) discussing in only two pages, this exact issue. Turns out, some people are sensitive to the combination of oleyl alcohol and lanolin (both present in classic, not cherry) and so I have determined that as the cause of my lip reaction. No more classic chapstick for me. Back to cherry. So I'm a genius for discovering that and it's time for bed.

Sophomore year's Music
So last year was all about Beyonce. My favorite woman came out with B'Day in September, right at the start of my fun, wonderful and challenging year. All the songs were soulful, raw, clever and fun, which was just what I needed. This year, I have an equally talented lady singing to me every day--Alicia Keys. She just came out with "As I Am" and it's the perfect album to follow Beyonce's for me. Like Beyonce, Alicia Keys is all about empowering women, making real music (at least real vocals), with a lot of feeling, which is what I love. But how am I supposed to do homework now when I have a whole album to listen to? Siiiigh. (Not that I could focus anyways, what with vacation being so close....)

Getting Connected
The chance to not only provide your kid with an excellent tool for learning (and fun), but also to give that same tool to a kid in a developing nation?
Go for it, Josh, I think that sounds awesome! Laptops for all! But really, it is a marketing scheme, but I think it's a good one. Technology is a huge part of education today, and so many people don't have the finances to access that technology. Anyways, I think it sounds cool.

"Play Tickets"
I need to stop writing stuff on my hands before I go to sleep. I just looked in the mirror (after seeing about a million people already today), and my left cheek, towards the bottom said "play tickets play tickets play tickets" all over lapping in blue pen. Awesome, Lib.
At least I remembered to buy the play tickets...

Is This the BBC?
I got a sandwich to eat in my room tonight and thought, hm, what could make this a more home-y meal... So I turned on the news, because that's what we always eat dinner to at home. I opted for the BBC of course, because as I know and as everyone always says, the BBC is far superior to all the stupid Fox, CNN, CBS, etc stations because it avoids the non-sense, touchy-feely American propaganda stories. So I was really surprised, when, amidst real news, they snuck in a segment with waving American flags, sappy music, and interviews with three people from a random county in Virginia regarding their political views, and how personal they are.... Um, ok. But now they're back to real news (although they're talking about Brad and Angelina.....).

Newspapers
So I guess
Josh really is Dad's son, seeing as he is picking on the issue of "bring" vs. "take" in newspapers. Speaking of newspapers, I was just walking through the hall when one of my friends said "Lib, did you hear about this story?" and I glanced at the headline, which read
Woman Confronts Truck, Dies. Ok... Very sad, but interesting choice of titles, because the first thing I pictured was some woman walking into the road being like "Hey you, Truck! Yea, I'm talkin' to you!" But maybe I'm just too immature to read the newspaper.

Welcome Back, Doritos
A couple weeks ago, I was eating chips with some of my friends when another kid from the hall walked into the room and asked for some food. We offered him Doritos and he said "Oh, I try to avoid MSG." This comment sparked many subsequent conversations about MSG and how it's bad for your brain and increases your appetite. I thought to myself,
hey, I've been eating MSG, transfats, high fructose corn syrup and all sorts of other horrible things my whole life, I'm probably already doomed, but I guess I can try to curb my doomedness a little, so I stopped buying Doritos. Well, I was just making a nutrition bulletin board for my hall (I hate you, RA bulletin requirements), and I was about to list MSG as something to avoid, but I decided to do some research first. I found
this government article and it turns out there really isn't that much evidence to say that MSG is bad for you. I'm sure it's not great for you, but, basically.... WELCOME BACK TO MY LIFE, DORITOS! (I will still avoid all transfat and high fructose corn syrup though, the evidence there is overwhelming... and yes, I will limit my doritos intake... Like dad always says (and anyone smart), most things in moderation are ok).
