Muscle Memory

A few weeks ago in tap class, a bunch of people couldn't make it to the class due to various sporting events, etc. so we couldn't add anything new to our routien. Instead, one girl wanted to do a combination that we hadn't done yet this year, although we had done it many times in past years. At first Kathy (the teacher) had no idea what the combination was, but once she she the girl doing it, she picked it up and did it perfectly! She then commented on how cool muscle memory was.

Since then, I've also noticed muscle memory coming into play. I've been playing the piano a lot recently (I always play when I'm waiting for the computer to start up, and then when I'm bored). And there are songs that I know the tune of, but I don't remeber how to play them, but once I get the first note, my fingers just know exactly where to go. So I think that's pretty cool. Now I'm debating whether or not to take piano lessons again. Realisticly, I probably won't. The reason I would want to though is I can only teach myself so much, it really does help to have a teacher show you how to play pieces. Although, until I decided, I'll just keep the songs I know. And attempting to play songs from "Rent," (the broadway play, which is nearly impossible, but fun). Posted by lib at November 4, 2003 08:10 PM
