Protest

So a bunch of kids at school organized a protest against the war today. I went to part of it, but then the protest group left school to protest downtown and I decided not to go with them. I sort of wish I had now, but I'm glad I at least went to part of it. I'm not sure exactly who will respond to the protest. It'll probably get some newspaper coverage and the like, but even if only the people in the Montpelier area hear it, I think any protest will help. Obviously Bush will go to war no matter what, but at least we can say we tried.

There were some kids at the protest who were there only to get out of class, but I think the majority of the students actually felt strongly enough about not going to war and not supporting the Bush administration that they were willing to miss classes for it. I was actually really impressed that the people who were adressing the group (most were just listening) actually knew what they were talking about and knew exactly what it was about the Bush administration and the war that they didn't like. I think the rest of it, when I wasn't there was just showing all the people downtown (and probably the legislators at the State House) that they didn't want to go to war. Anyways, that was the most exciting thing that happened today, so it was a fun first day back at school.

Goal for today: go to bed early so waking up won't be too terrible Posted by lib at March 5, 2003 02:43 PM
