I traveled with Martha, Chris and Alice by way of Zurich and Athens. All went smoothly, with a short layover in Zurich, a quick bus ride to Pireaus, where we hopped on a Highspeed ferry that took us to Paros. A very long day of travel, but at the end we were at our final destination, as they say in the travel business. We have been at the Argonauta Hotel in Parikia, the main port town on Paros. Myrto et al. are, of course, staying at the family house.
Days are typically framed around morning runs for Barb, chocolate croissants and coffee, or juice, for all, going to the beach in morning and late afternoon, then dinner. The beaches are lovely and close by. The favorite local beach in Caminio (fourth row of pictures here) across the bay. We can take a water taxi (an old fishing boat outfitted for passenger transport), by car if going with the kids, or by walking. The latter is, not suprisingly, not popular with the youngere set. Barb, Thanassi and I often walk at least one way. It takes perhaps a half an hour along the shore. It really is quite nice, unless you foolishly go at mid-day, when you will meet many mad dogs and Englishmen, and will be exhausted by the time you get to the beach.
The other day we rented a car for a couple of days. Yesterday we went to Kolibethres, near Nauossa on the north end of the island. The beach there is noted for the clear, shallow water, and the eroded rocks at the shore. Some pictures of the place can be found on the second page of this link.
Today we go to Tripiti on the other side of the island. This is a great little beach, with deeper water than some, but fine swimming. There is also a large hole in the shore that is interesting. Pictures to follow.
