Dog on the mend
You may have seen the note about
Micque's bleeding foot on Lib's site.
Here and
here are pictures of Micque with her foot bandaged. Somehow she lost a toe nail with much bleeding. She will be fine.
Gay marriage
Bush wants to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriage. This may be the ultimate wedge issue, something he will need to win. However, I wonder if he could support my modest proposal? I say the State has no business endorsing marriage. If, as Bush and his reactionary henchmen say, marriage is sacred, then I say let the State get out of the marriage business. State sanctioned marriages are really only sanctioned for the purpose of recognizing lines of inheritance, property rights and the like. These can all be handled quite nicely by Civil Unions, or something similar. If couples (of any gender combination) want a church to sanctify their union, they should arrange that without interference of the State. The interests of the well ordered state are maintained, while avoiding unseemly entanglement with religion.
